PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a sewing machine by which the height setting of a center presser can easily be performed. SOLUTION: This sewing machine 100 can set the suitable height of the center presser 2 in response to the thickness of a fabric or a stage section for each needle location point, being the height by which the center presser 2 hits the fabric, by calculating a difference between a reference pulse count being input for driving an center presser motor 4, and a driving pulse count corresponding to the actual rotation amount of the center presser motor 4 being detected by an encoder 5 for each needle location point, when the center presser motor 4 is driven so that the center presser 2 may be made to hit a location of the fabric being equivalent to each needle location point in sewing data while moving the fabric being held by a holding frame 111, conforming to the sewing data which are stored in a ROM 203.
