PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability by reducing a user's load of editing objects and groups. SOLUTION: An information processing apparatus has a detection means for detecting the selection of an area, a determination means for determining whether the area detected by the detection means contains a whole first group of objects or contains part of the objects constituting the first group, which is different from the area containing the whole first group, and a group generation means for, if the determination means determines that the area detected by the detection means contains part of the objects constituting the first group, which is different from the area containing the whole first group, generating a new group containing the part of the objects constituting the first group which is contained in the area.
