PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a target piece be transposed as favorably as possible so as not to be transposed against user's intention even in the case the target piece is modulated in the middle. SOLUTION: Automatic performance data including sound pitch data for respectively representing sound pitches of a series of notes is transposed in accordance with the following steps. First, a location of a note first appearing in the performance data is detected, and a key at the detected location of the note is extracted (steps S23-S25). Next, the sound pitch data in the performance data is changed according to an interval between the extracted key and a predetermined or chosen key so as to transpose a music piece represented by the performance data (step S26).
