PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine, including a more reliably operating thread cutter. SOLUTION: This sewing machine 1 includes: a thread cutting means having a fixed scalpel and a moving scalpel 14 moving relative to the fixed scalpel; a cam 12 provided with a cam groove 12c; a sewing machine motor 2 not shown; an encoder 3 for detecting the turning angle of the cam 12 by detecting the turning angle of an upper shaft not shown; a roller 13 provided to engage with the cam groove 12c and connected to the moving scalpel 14 through a connecting link 15; an air cylinder 16 for causing the roller 13 to move toward an inlet of the cam grove 12c and engage with the cam groove; and a driving device 4 for controlling the drive of the sewing machine motor 2 and the air cylinder 16.
