Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user interface for a device, which supports a complicated user interactive task while providing a simple command interface. SOLUTION: A disclosed processing device, including an on-screen user interface display, incorporates a means for generating a plurality of hierarchically ordered menus 500. The menus include a current menu 555 and preceding parent menus 535, 540, 545, 550, indicating selection paths 545 and 555 from parent menus to the current menu. Also a menu selection item 555 within a hierarchical menu display provides a user with at least one of, (a) a display of control information for the device, and (b) control parameter data entry capability.
