Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of shock due to racing at a time of start of an engine 2 provided with a combustion chamber 27 and an intake valve 41 opening during intake stroke of cylinder cycle to allow intake air to flow in the combustion chamber 27. SOLUTION: This system includes a process cranking the engine 2 without starting combustion by setting closure timing of the intake valve 41 to a predetermined first intake valve closure timing from a stroke before first intake stroke and after start demand to the engine 2, a process starting combustion after the first intake stroke, and a process retarding closure timing of the intake valve 41 in same cylinder cycle after start of the combustion. Consequently, torque gradually increases as engine rotation speed rises by retarding closure timing of the intake valve 41 (or increasing lift thereof) after start of combustion in such a manner, and excessive racing can be prevented.
