IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device equipped with a light source section that operates partial lighting, in which display image quality can be improved by decreasing luminance irregularity or chromaticity irregularity in a displayed image. SOLUTION: Image display is carried out in a liquid crystal display panel 2 based on a video signal by using illumination light Lout from a light source section 10 wherein a partial lighting section 4 as a unit is turned on. The illumination light Lout from the light source section 10 where the partial lighting section 4 as a unit is turned on is received by a plurality of illumination light sensors 13 in the light source section 10, and the luminous energy of each partial lighting section 4 is controlled based on a data D1 of received light. Otherwise, depending on the layout of the illumination light sensors 13, the illumination light Lout from one partial lighting section 4 is received by two or more illumination light sensors 13. This improves the reliability of values of the data D1 of received light by the illumination light sensors 13, and thereby, even when light receiving characteristics fluctuate among the illumination light sensors 13, fluctuation in the light receiving characteristics can be suppressed as well as fluctuation in light emission characteristics among the partial lighting sections 4 can be decreased.
