Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a method for controlling the quantity of ink which is supplied to an impression cylinder of a printing machine. SOLUTION: A characteristic curve representing an ink stripe length to various dot area ratios is stored in a storage device 37 in accordance with a printing speed. A controller 21 considers an average dot area ratio of each individual zone to control an ink stripe of a printing unit changes the ink stripe length in accordance with the characteristic curve when the printing speed is changed. The above-described characteristic curve corresponds to the temperature of ink to be applied, the degree of tackiness of ink which should be applied, the viscosity of ink which should be applied and a printing characteristic of the employed printed matter to be printed 1.
