PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously read both sides of a document without causing an image missing. SOLUTION: An image reading unit reads an image from one side of a document while reading an image from the other side of the document. An image processing unit accumulates image information of the images read by the reading unit. When the quantity of image information accumulated by the accumulation unit reaches a predetermined quantity while the reading unit reads the image from the one side as well as the image from the other side, a control unit 10 writes and accumulates the image information of the image read from the one side over the image information of the image read from the other side being accumulated in the accumulation unit while the reading unit continuously reads the image from one side of the document at least.
