Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal panel having an excellent balance of contrast and visual field angle characteristics and to provide a liquid crystal display apparatus utilizing the same. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal panel comprising a first polarizer, a first optical compensation layer whose index ellipsoid has the relationship: nx>ny>nz and whose in-plane retardation Re1is in the range of 90 to 300 nm; a liquid crystal cell, a second optical compensation layer whose index ellipsoid has the relationship: nx>ny>nz and whose in-plane retardation Re2is in the range of 90 to 300 nm, and a second polarizer, arranged in this order toward the viewing side, the sum ΣRth1 to nof thickness-direction retardations of all the optical compensation layers and the thickness-direction retardation Rthcof the liquid crystal cell satisfy formula (1): -160 nm
