Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear shift operation device for a vehicle capable of enhancing the operability of a manual operation switch when steering a steering wheel, and reliably preventing any improper operation of the manual operation switch. SOLUTION: The gear shift operation device has an automatic variable speed mode in which the variable speed ratio of an automatic transmission is automatically changed according to the traveling state of the vehicle and a manual variable speed mode in which the variable speed ratio of the automatic transmission is manually changed by operating the manual operation switch. An operation unit 31 having a concentric ring shape with a ring part of a steering wheel at the forward position of a vehicle body of the ring part is provided on the manual operation switch 3. The operation unit is divided into three arc-shaped operation pieces 31a, etc. so as to be operable in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body. The manufacture operation switch is constituted so that a shift-up command signal is output by operating each operation piece forward of the vehicle body, and a shift-down command signal is output by operating each operation piece backward of the vehicle body.
