Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved dual clutch axle assembly adapted for rear axle applications reducing mass of vehicle components and reducing the packaging space requirements of the vehicle components in addition to allowing preemptive actuation. SOLUTION: A rear axle assembly for an automobile includes two clutch packs for supplying torque to right and left driven axles of the automobile. The axle assembly clutch packs are efficiently packaged within an axle housing inside an inner diameter of an axle ring gear. A single hydraulic actuator is used to apply hydraulic pressure through a closed circuit to pistons associated with each of the clutch packs to thereby apply compressive force to the clutch packs to energize them.
