Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-traveling apparatus which properly detects an obstacle even when impact is applied to the apparatus from behind obliquely. SOLUTION: The self-traveling apparatus is a security robot configured to autonomously travel on a floor surface inside a predetermined room. The self-traveling apparatus is provided with: a side impact buffering part which has right and left side cover members installed at an upper cover part and buffers impact applied to the apparatus main body sideways; an obstacle detection sensor for detecting an obstacle based on the contact of the side cover members with the obstacle, the obstacle detection sensor being mounted on the side cover member and being provided with a detection state switching member 30 for switching the detection state of the obstacle; and a protruding axial part 195 and an insertion hole part 187 and a protrusion part 196 and a contact face part 1862b configured to guide the movement of the detection state switching member so that the detection state of the obstacle by the obstacle detection sensor can be switched when impact is applied to the side cover members from behind obliquely.
