Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elliptically polarizing plate having an optical compensation film consisting of a liquid crystal layer, thin and hardly causing crack due to a foreign substance in a thermal shock test and wrinkle due to the shrinkage of a linear polarizing plate in a heat test and a liquid crystal display device using the same. SOLUTION: The elliptically polarizing plate 10 is formed by laminating the linear polarizing plate 1, a first adhesive layer 5, a retardation film 2, a second adhesive layer 6, the optical compensation plate 3 consisting of the liquid crystal layer and a third adhesive layer 7 in this order. In such a case, the second adhesive layer 6 comprises one having larger storage elastic modulus than that of the third adhesive layer 7. It is preferable that the first adhesive layer 5 has also larger storage elastic modulus than that of the third adhesive layer 7. It is advantageous that the first adhesive layer and the second adhesive layer have ≥1×105N/m2storage elastic modulus and the third adhesive layer has ≤3×104N/m2. The liquid crystal display device is formed by sticking the third adhesive layer side of the elliptically polarizing plate 10 to at least one surface of a liquid crystal cell.
