alpha-ALUMINA SLURRY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide α-alumina slurry which is suitable for producing an α-alumina sintered compact and can be easily sintered. SOLUTION: The α-alumina slurry is characterized in that the α forming ratio is ≥95%, the neck ratio is ≤30%, the total content of Si, Fe, Cu and Na is ≤500 ppm, an α-alumina powder, wherein the number ratio of particles each having a particle diameter of ≥200 nm is ≤1%, is dispersed in an aqueous medium, and the diameters of aggregated particles of the α-alumina powder are ≤0.2 μm. Preferably, the slurry contains a sintering aid. The α-alumina slurry is produced by subjecting the α-alumina powder and the aqueous medium together with an alumina-based agitation medium having particle diameters of ≤0.7 mm and purity of ≥99.9 mass% to a dispersion treatment using a medium agitation mill. It is preferable that the dispersion treatment is carried out in the presence of a dispersant selected from the group consisting of inorganic acids, inorganic salts, organic acids and surfactants. An α-alumina sintered compact is produced by molding the α-alumina slurry and sintering the obtained molding. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
