Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide unsaturated carboxylic acid polymer powder used in an electrolyte of an alkaline battery as a gelling agent, having high dispersibility of zinc powder, preventing increase in the internal pressure, and to provide the manufacturing method for it. SOLUTION: Polymer powder having 3-5C olefin unsaturated carboxylic acid or its salt as a constituting monomer, in which Brookfield viscosity of a 2 mass% solution in a 34 mass% KOH aqueous solution (BH type, No.6 rotor, 20 rpm, at 25°C) is set to 15,000 mPa s or higher, and the content of residual monomer is set to 2,000 ppm or lower is used as the unsaturated carboxylic acid polymer powder for the alkaline battery.
