Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly durable organic EL element sealed by a sealing film which is a fine film, while having low possibility of cracking, is thin while having high barrier properties, has a small amount of stress, and can be manufactured by a simple method, in terms of tact and production processes. SOLUTION: In this organic electroluminescent element, a first electrode, an organic electroluminescent layer made of one or more organic compound films, containing a luminescent layer and formed on the first electrode, and a second layer, are formed on a substrate, and a sealing film having a unit comprising three layers of first, second, and third inorganic films composed of at least silica, nitrogen and oxygen is formed on the second electrode. When viewing nitrogen and oxygen components contained in the first and third inorganic layers in terms of atom number density, a larger amount of the component is contained in the layers in the order of nitrogen and oxygen; and when viewing nitrogen and oxygen components in the second inorganic layer in terms of atom number density, a larger amount of the component is contained in the layer in order of oxygen and nitrogen.
