Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element driving method capable of reducing the cost of a display device such as portable display device, for example, non-contact IC card. SOLUTION: Upon the driving of a planar state of cholesteric liquid crystal cell, a pulse voltage is applied to the liquid crystal cell, thereafter, a driving impedance on the power source side is set to be a value lower than the impedance of the liquid crystal cell and, at the same time, an applied voltage is made to be zero. Further, on the driving to a focal conic state, a pulse voltage is applied and, thereafter, the driving impedance is set to be a value higher than the impedance of the liquid crystal cell.
