Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-dielectric loss resin composition having low-dielectric loss properties, soluble in a low-boiling point general-purpose solvent at room temperature, providing excellent processability of a circuit board, and having a narrow molecular weight distribution. SOLUTION: The method for producing a poly(phenylene ether) by oxidation coupling in a heterogeneous system comprising a first solvent of good solvent for the polymer, and a second solvent immiscible with the first solvent is provided.
