Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely, easily and highly accurately measure off-center during a hot rolling work of a steel bar and a steel wire. SOLUTION: A method for detecting off-center is used for detecting the off-center of a steel material 1 including a steel bar with respect to a pair of rolling rolls 3, 4 when the steel material 1 is rolled by the rolling rolls 3, 4. Images of a pair of non-rolling-reduction surfaces 1a located between a pair of rolling-reduction surfaces subjected to the rolling-reduction by the pair of rolling-reduction rolls on the surface of the rolled steel material 1 are picked up, and the off-center is detected based on the difference in the width of the pair of non-rolling-reduction surfaces 1a.
