CHARACTER CUTOUT METHOD AND CHARACTER RECOGNITION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately cut out a character pattern at high speed even from a character image from which character cutout is difficult to reduce wrongly read characters by registering a character rectangular pattern not connected with the other character rectangle as dictionary data, and cutting out a character rectangle matched with the dictionary data without connection with the other character rectangle. SOLUTION: The character cutout method for cutting out each character pattern in a character unit from an image of a character string composed of a character pattern including a double-byte character or broad character and a one-byte character or narrow character, comprises registering character patterns of a one-byte character or narrow character wrongly connected and a character not connected singly with the other character as dictionary data, performing pattern matching with a character rectangle detected by projection, and cutting out a character pattern without connecting the matched character rectangle with the other character rectangle.
