Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a low-malodorous aqueous resin composition capable of reducing the formaldehyde content and to provide an excellently safe binder composition for a nonwoven fabric comprising the aqueous resin composition obtained by the method, having a low formaldehyde content and a slight malodor with an alcohol, etc., and suitable for fiber processing and paper processing. SOLUTION: The method for producing the aqueous resin composition comprises the following polymerization step. Polymerization of monomers containing an acrylic ester or a methacrylic ester and a carboxy group-containing vinyl compound is carried out in the presence of a cross-linking agent producing the formaldehyde during the polymerization and a polymerization initiator in an aqueous medium while controlling the pH of the reaction system within the range of 4-7 with a basic substance such as ammonia.
