Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a humectant, an antiaging agent, a whitening agent, an anti-inflammatory agent, and an antioxidant which each contains a newly found active ingredient having excellent humectant action, antiaging action, whitening action, anti-inflammatory action, and antioxidizing action, and can be applied to wide fields such as skin care preparations, foods and drinks. SOLUTION: An extract of a Barringtonia or Couroupita plant is used as a humectant, an antiaging agent, a whitening agent, an anti-inflammatory agent, or an antioxidant. The extract of the Barringtonia or Couroupita plant is compounded with compositions such as a skin care preparation or food to provide various compositions exhibiting excellent humectant action, antiaging action, whitening action, anti-inflammatory action, and antioxidizing action.
