Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel and improved method for producing an aromatic or a heteroaromatic nitrile from an aromatic or heteroaromatic hydrocarbon. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method for preparing an aromatic or a heteroaromatic nitrile represented by general formula (I) from an aromatic or heteroaromatic hydrocarbon in the presence of ammonia and oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas using a supported catalyst comprising 0.5 to 20 wt.% of vanadium oxide comprised of 2 to 30 particle fractions thereof with a mean diameter of each of the particle fractions mutually different by 10 to 80% and a support having bulk density of 0.6 to 1.2 kg/L.
