Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material for a lithium ion battery which is higher in charge and discharge capacity than a conventional one. SOLUTION: The negative electrode active material for the lithium ion battery composed of a carbon material and silicon carbide is manufactured after passing through a process of coating or mixing polysilane to the carbon material, and a process of heat treating the carbon material in which polysilane is coated or mixed to form silicon carbide on the carbon material. As the carbon material, a carbon fiber which is formed by oxidizing and polymerizing a compound having an aromatic ring, by forming a fibril state polymer, and by calcining the fibril state polymer is preferable.
