Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal oxide catalyst which consists of an aggregate of a metal oxide fiber and is excellent in treatment because the aggregate has the sufficient hardness. SOLUTION: An unshaped accumulated layer of a fibrous metal-oxide precursor is compressed to be incorporation treated and thereafter calcined to form the metal oxide catalyst containing the aggregate of the metal oxide fiber. The fibrous metal-oxide precursor forms a crosslinking among metal oxides by selfcondensation in a process in which a hydroxy group(an OH group) in the metal oxide precursor is dehydrated by calcination to form a metal oxide when the fibrous metal-oxide precursor becomes the metal oxide fiber by calcination. Thus, the metal oxide fiber adheres each other while maintaining a fibrous state and therefore the aggregate of the metal oxide fiber of the high hardness can be obtained.
