Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simpler method for producing an α-hydroxycarboxylic acid from a carbonyl compound and a cyanide donor by using hydroxynitrile lyase and nitrilase. SOLUTION: The method for producing the α-hydroxycarboxylic acid from the carbonyl compound and the cyanide donor comprises transferring a gene encoding the hydroxynitrile lyase and a gene encoding the nitrilase to a microorganism to produce a transformant and carrying out a reaction using the transformed microorganism.
