MAGNETIC INK CHARACTER READER, AND ITS CONTROL METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic ink character reader that can reduce errors in magnetic ink character recognition in executing character recognition processing based on detection result data representing detection results by a magnetic head to recognize each magnetic ink character recorded on a recording medium. SOLUTION: A similarity acquisition part 32 acquires similarities between reference data corresponding to a plurality of magnetic ink characters and data corresponding to a single character segmented from detection result data. A character recognition part 33 determines that the magnetic ink character that has the highest similarity is a magnetic ink character corresponding to the data corresponding to the single character. A character recognition restriction part 35 restricts the determination that the magnetic ink character that has the highest similarity is a magnetic ink character corresponding to the data corresponding to the single character if the difference between the highest similarity and the second highest similarity is smaller than a predetermined reference difference.
