Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new piperidine derivative and a new pyrrolidine derivative each effective for treating diabetes. SOLUTION: The new piperidine compound and the new pyrrolidine compound each having specific substituents are provided, wherein, for example, the substituents include at least three free-type or protective-type hydroxy groups. Specifically, an example of these compounds is (3R, 4R, 5R)-3,4-dihydroxy-5-hydroxymethylpiperidine. This compound is active as an inhibitor for glucose formation from the liver, thus being usable for dealing with elevated plasma glucose levels in diabetes. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
