Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid increases of inlet pressure of a supercharger and a smoke emission amount when exhaust pressure rises up with deposition of soot, by limiting exactly a fuel injection amount and supercharge pressure. SOLUTION: This controller for an engine is provided with the supercharger 7 for supercharging an intake supplied to the engine 1, a filter 10 interposed in an engine exhaust passage 5 to collect a particulate substance in exhaust gas, an inlet pressure detecting means 14 for detecting inlet side pressure of the filter 10, an engine speed detecting means 12 for detecting an engine speed, and a control means for setting a limit value of the fuel injection amount and a limit value of the supercharge pressure, based on the inlet side pressure of the filter 10 and the engine speed, and for controlling the fuel injection amount and the supercharge pressure not to exceed the limit values.
