OPTICAL MATERIAL, OPTICAL ELEMENT, OPTICAL DEVICE, AND DISPLAY METHOD OF OPTICAL ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical material, an optical element, an optical device, and a display method of an optical element capable of implementing the multi-color display with a single pixel. SOLUTION: For example, the optical element comprises a pair of a transparent substrate 10 and a backside substrate 12 that are disposed so as to face each other with a predetermined space by means of a spacer 22. A pair of a transparent electrode 14 and a backside electrode 16, a periodic structure 18 as an optical material, a moving fluid 20A, and a holding fluid 20B are disposed in the space between the transparent substrate 10 and the backside substrate 12. The moving fluid 20A is sucked into (enters) the inside of the void structure of the periodic structure as the optical material, and changes the structural color of the periodic structure, thereby enabling multi-color display.
