Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image projection device which is improved in image quality, made compact and inexpensive, and further restrains the lowering of light quantity to the utmost. SOLUTION: The image projection device includes: an illumination unit to generate parallel beams; a condensing lens to condense the beams from the illumination unit; an optical modulation unit to optically modulate the light from the condensing lens so as to form an image; and a projection lens to project the light optically modulated by the optical modulation unit onto a screen. The optical modulation unit comprises a first optical modulation element for forming an ordinary color image and a second optical modulation element for forming a high-contrast monochrome image. The first and the second optical modulation elements respectively have an image forming part, and are installed proximately so that their image forming parts may be opposed to each other.
