Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To predict (calculate) the number of pages of image data of a document which can be stored in an image storage means in a short time and to report the number of pages to a user before the image data begin to be output. SOLUTION: A CPU 20 reads only a partial range of a document image by a scanner engine 11, calculates the image data size of a first surface of the document from the size of the image data within the range, and predicts (calculates) the number of pages of the image data of the document which can be stored in the RAM 22 based upon the image data size and a previously set output condition, thereby displaying the number of pages on an operation section 25.
