Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an alarm level suitable for a driver's feeling. SOLUTION: A picked-up image of traveling environment is divided into a plurality of cells, and fractal dimensions are computed for every divided cell. A degree of attention required for the traveling environment is determined according to the quantity and distribution change of cells with the computed fractal dimensions being a predetermined value or more. For example, when the enlargement of cells is detected, the alarm level is set to "medium" and when there is no change in the quantity p of cells, the alarm level is set to "low."
