Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of an image display device for efficiently applying an AC voltage between a display electrode and a common electrode without imposing load on a driver or a switching element that supplies a writing voltage to a writing signal line. SOLUTION: An AC voltage is applied between a ground terminal 47 of an auxiliary capacitor 46 and a common electrode 7 which are conventionally bundled together and connected to a ground potential. A driving circuit 33 for an auxiliary capacitor line is connected to the auxiliary capacitor line 44, while a driving circuit 34 for the common electrode is connected to the common electrode 7. Just before writing a writing voltage to the display electrode 12 through a thin film transistor element 40, an AC voltage is applied to the circuit connecting in series the capacitor formed by the display electrode 12 and the common electrode 7 with the auxiliary capacitor 46 while the thin film transistor element 40 is shut. Upon writing the writing voltage on the display electrode 12 through the thin film transistor element 40, the auxiliary capacitor line 44 and the common electrode 7 are connected to the ground potential.
