SOLUTION: The mode field conversion fiber 10 includes a core region 11 for propagating light, a clad region 12 provided in a manner surrounding the core region 11, a plurality of vacancies 13 formed in the clad region 12 in a manner surrounding the core region 11 with a prescribed interval, and a medium 14 that is filled only on one end of the vacancies 13 and that has an arbitrary refractive index n3, wherein the interior of the other end of the vacancies 13 is air.
