Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which is made thinner in an optical axis direction and which can accurately detect a position of a lens and to provide a portable terminal equipped with the optical module. SOLUTION: The optical module has a lens holder 22 for holding a lens group 21 and a power output shaft 13b extending in a direction perpendicularly intersecting an optical axis of the lens group 21. The optical module is equipped with a motor 13 for rotating the power output shaft 13b and a transmission mechanism 53 which changes rotation of the power output shaft 13b into translational motion in the optical axis direction and transmits it to the lens holder 22 and further has a photoelectric sensor 61 as a detection part for detecting a position of the lens holder 22 in the optical axis direction and a part to be detected 56f formed on a cam gear 56. The detection part 61 carries out reception and emission of light having a peak in an infrared region and a 1st reflection part 56g of the part to be detected 56f forms a reflection type infrared cutting filter and thereby infra-red light which is not transmitted and absorbed can be efficiently reflected to give the detection part large power output and consequently the lens position can be accurately detected.
