Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crystalline imatinib base form I suitable for preparing an imatinib salt such as a mesylate salt, and a process for producing it. SOLUTION: The crystalline imatinib base form I characterized by the X-ray powder diffraction pattern that shows strong diffraction peaks at 2θ of 6.0, 17.2, 18.1, 18.7, 19.8, 20.9, 23.8, 24.3 and 25.2±0.2 degrees is provided.
