Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive, small, and power-saving sensor, capable of wirelessly detecting the stress applied to a target portion or distortions due to the stress. SOLUTION: In this surface acoustic wave sensor, comprising a transponder including a surface acoustic wave element having a piezoelectric substrate 1 and a comb-tooth electrode 2 and an antenna means 3, and an inquiry device transmitting a drive signal to the transponder and receiving a response signal from the transponder; a magnetostrictive membrane 4 is provided on the piezoelectric substrate 1; and a stress acting on the piezoelectric substrate 1 is wirelessly detected, based on the change in propagation characteristic of surface acoustic wave by the magnetostrictive membrane 4.
