PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitor camera which suppresses the wrong decision of switching over a color filter and a black-and-white filter. SOLUTION: The monitor camera 1A comprises an optical filter 4 changeable to a color mode and a black-and-white mode, a picture signal processor 5A, a switching controller 6A, and a filter switching motor 7. An amplification decider 12 of the switching controller 6A selects the color mode or the black-and-white mode when the amplification degree of a signal level is in a color mode decision zone or a black-and-white decision zone, respectively. An RB decider 13 of the switching controller 6A selects either the color mode or the black-and-white mode when the amplification degree of the signal level is in a color or black-and-white undecision zone based on R- and B-components of the picture signal.
