Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain homogeneity of brightness distribution of a tube axial direction, suppress flickering, and prevent generation of a surge voltage of a lamp voltage in a frequency increase period, even if a rare gas fluorescent lamp is dimmed by burst light adjustment. SOLUTION: In the rare gas fluorescent lamp lighting device which is provided with a rare gas fluorescent lamp 1, and an inverter circuit 100 to apply an alternate current high voltage to a lamp 1, the circuit 100 is composed of an inverter control circuit 102 to output a switching element operation signal, a switching element circuit 101 to convert a direct current voltage into an alternate current voltage by turning on and off controlling the switching element according to the switching element operation signal, and a transformer 111 to boost voltage of the alternate current voltage from the circuit 101, and in which the burst light adjustment is carried out by controlling time ratio of a light-on period and a light-off period of the lamp 1, in a period from a lighting start point of the burst light adjustment to the whole light emission completion point in which the lamp 1 emits light over the whole in the approximately axial direction, a frequency of the switching element operation signal of at least one part of the period is made to be higher than the frequency of the switching element operation signal at a stationary time.
