Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device enabling both enhancement of aperture ratio and cost reduction. SOLUTION: On a substrate 31 of the display device, pixel areas having a pixel electrode and a pixel driving element for driving the pixel electrode are arranged in matrix. The display device is provided with: a recessed part 321 formed by processing the substrate 31 and capable of housing the pixel driving element and at least a part of wiring electrically connecting at least between the pixel driving elements or between the pixel driving element and a peripheral circuit for controlling the pixel driving element; and a flattening insulating film 309 which is formed at least on the recessed part 321 of the substrate 31 and which equalizes approximately the height from the bottom face of the substrate in the area where the pixel driving element is formed and the height from the bottom face in the area where the pixel driving element is not formed.
