Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine in which NOx is reduced without using an EGR device. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine comprises a piston drive mechanism 28 and a fuel injection control means 46. The piston drive mechanism is so formed that a piston 24 can take a compression top dead center two times in the form of first and second compression top dead centers in one cycle in this order. The fuel injection control means performs, in one cycle of the piston, a first fuel injection before the first compression top dead center comes and the second fuel injection near the second compression top dead center after the first fuel injection by a fuel injection valve 16.
