Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novolak type phenol resin composition for a mud material substantially suppressing crack during heating and suppressing malodors during kneading to a low level and to provide the mud material comprising the resin composition. SOLUTION: The phenol resin composition for the mud material comprises a phenol resin containing unreacted phenols and a binuclear compound component. The content of the unreacted phenols is characterized as ≤5 wt.% based on the whole phenol resin.
