Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having excellent contrast, response speed, and viewing angle characteristics. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate provided so as to face the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes first linear structures for controlling the alignment of liquid crystal and auxiliary structures, and the second substrate includes second linear structures for controlling the alignment of liquid crystal, and the first structures and the auxiliary structures extend in directions different from each other, and the second structures extend in parallel with the first structures, and the first structures and the second structures extend in directions different from directions where edges of pixels extend.
