DISCHARGE LAMP LIGHTING DEVICE, AND PROJECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device enabled to alleviate luminance degradation and elongate lamp life by restraining wear of a lamp electrode, as well as a projector incorporating the same. SOLUTION: The device is made provided with an inverter 12 converting an inputted direct-current voltage into an alternating-current voltage of a desired frequency and supplying a lamp 20 with a drive current, a voltage detecting circuit detecting a voltage equivalent to a lamp voltage of a lamp 20, and a control circuit 15 controlling frequencies of the drive voltage the inverter 12 supplies to the lamp 20 based on the voltage equivalent to the lamp voltage detected by the voltage detecting circuit.
