Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display wherein alignment layers having a high pretilt angle region and a low pretilt angle region can be formed using a simple method and which is provided with the alignment layers with which bend alignment can be obtained stably and easily, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display has a first substrate, a liquid crystal layer and a second substrate in this order and further has a first alignment layer on the surface on the liquid crystal layer side of the first substrate and a second alignment layer on the surface of the liquid crystal layer side of the second substrate, the first alignment layer and/or the second alignment layer has a high pretilt angle region on the surface, of which a high pretilt angle alignment layer aligning liquid crystal molecules at a relatively high pretilt angle is provided; and the low pretilt angle region on the surface of which a low pretilt angle alignment layer for aligning the liquid crystal molecules at a relatively low pretilt angle is provided, and the high pretilt angle alignment layer is formed by an ink jet method.
