Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element having a wide viewing angle and suitable for duty driving, and to provide a method for manufacturing the element. SOLUTION: A first alignment layer 8 and a second alignment layer 10 having vertical alignment property and subjected to an alignment process in a predetermined region are disposed on opposing faces of a first substrate 1 and a second substrate 2, respectively, of the liquid crystal display element. The region where the first alignment layer 8 is aligned, and the region where the second alignment layer 10 is aligned are alternately disposed in one direction without overlapping each other.
