VALVE TIMING CONTROL DEVICE OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance controllability of valve timing control, by preventing erroneous learning of a holding duty value of holding a phase of the valve timing. SOLUTION: An engine has a hydraulic variable valve timing mechanism capable of varying the valve timing of an engine valve, and prohibits learning of the holding duty value (Step ST42), when the oil temperature of a hydraulic fluid for driving the variable valve timing mechanism is a predetermined value or more (for example, 120 °C or more), when learning the holding duty value for holding the valve timing at that time, when a deviation between a target displacement angle evtt and an actual displacement angle evt falls within a predetermined range. Thus, the erroneous learning of the holding duty value caused by a fluctuation in the actual displacement angle in the vicinity of the target displacement angle, can be prevented, and the situation of not converging the actual displacement angle in the target displacement angle, can be avoided.
