Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of efficiently adjusting the brightness and contrast of an image projected from a projection lens, and capable of displaying images of high quality. SOLUTION: A first diaphragm 40 is provided in an optical path from a light source 1 to a DMD 15, and a second diaphragm 50 is provided in an optical path from the DMD 15 to the projection lens 17. When the contrast of the projection image is to be increased, a stop amount is increased so that the stop amount by the second diaphragm 50 is equal to or exceeds the stop amount by the first diaphragm 40. When the luminance is to be increased. the stop amount is reduced so that the stop amount by the first diaphragm 40 is equal to or smaller than the stop amount by the second diaphragm 50.
